Ellen Pompeo made a guest appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, December 13. The actress was forthright and honest about her decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy, ABC’s longest-running medical drama.

According to Ellen Pompeo, she “had to shake things up a little.”

Ellen has finally made the decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy after 19 seasons of portraying the illustrious Meredith Grey. The actress’ final episode is really scheduled to air on February 23, 2023. Ellen said, “I feel extremely happy, but listen, the show has been great to me and I’ve loved a lot of the experience,” when discussing her decision to eventually leave the show with Drew Barrymore. Listen, I just need to change things up a bit, she continued.

Ellen Pompeo desires to “try something different.”

The actress continued to speak and said, “I’m 53. My head is all jumbled up. You can’t complete the New York Times crossword puzzle every single day, I’m going to turn into, so I’ve got to try something new. I mean, 19 years, that’s more time than people keep their children in their homes, like folks keep their children in their homes till they’re 18 and then they send them off to college, she continued in jest. So this is similar to me leaving for college.”

The show’s creators recently revealed that Meredith Grey would continue to function as executive producer and narrate the programme, even if viewers might not get to see her much on screen.

For her three children, Ellen Pompeo wishes to “be more present.”
Ellen said, “I’m doing a lot of things. I take care of my three children, so it’s crucial for me to be available to them and to be more attentive to their needs.”

The following Ellen Pompeo project is an eight-episode Hulu series.

Pompeo said she is slated to star in and executive produce an 8-episode unnamed limited series about orphans for Hulu, which is based on a true tale, when asked about her intentions after Grey’s Anatomy.

The second episode of the new season of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere on Thursday, February 23, at 9 PM ET/PT on ABC.
