The singer’s family released a statement informing people of his passing.

“We announce the demise of our cherished son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell with heavy hearts. He died quietly at home in Los Angeles, according to the statement.

“At this time, while we grieve his tragic passing and celebrate his enduring impact, the family requests privacy.

Jesse Powell adored music, and he was especially grateful for his devoted followers who helped him succeed. We want each of you to know how much you meant to him.

The cause of his death and the precise date of his passing is unknown at this time.

In March 1996, Powell’s self-titled debut album was made available through Silas Records/MCA. The singles “All I Need,” “Gloria,” and “I Like It” were all featured.

The ballad “You,” which eventually became his hallmark song and was included on his follow-up album, “Bout It,” was tucked away on the record.

Jesse Powell and Carl Roland co-wrote the lovely song, which was given single treatment for his second album. “You,” which was produced by Roland, is unquestionably a timeless R&B song about declaring your love for someone. Powell’s singing on this song is just wonderful.

“(Baby, you) / The way you walk, the way you talk, the way you say my name, the way you smile (Baby, you) / How you make me feel is both soothing and uplifting. The way you spoke quietly all night long, baby you. In the touching chorus, he sings, “I just want to be there with you darling / I just want to be yours, from this day forth. Every morning you rise and open your eyes.

During the week of February 20, 1999, “You” made its Billboard Hot 100 debut at position No. 14. Powell’s first top 10 hits ultimately peaked at No. 10 on the coveted singles list. With around 13 million streams at the time of publication, it is still his most streamed song on Spotify.

In addition to “You,” the album’s lead single, “I Wasn’t With It,” became Powell’s debut appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 85.

Bout The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded it gold certification in June 1999 for selling more than 500,000 copies.

Powell later issued two more albums, JP (2001) and Jesse (2003). Another potent yet underappreciated song, “If I,” was the lead single from the previous album.

In a 2001 interview with Billboard, Powell said, “It’s about when you reach that stage where you’re not sure if the relationship is moving further. Although you’re hoping it’s not over yet, you may have made some mistakes.

Jesse Powell’s final album was Jesse. Since then, he has maintained a largely cloistered existence.
