Kevin Nash Life
Kevin Nash is a native Detroiter who works as both an actor and an advocate for equal rights. He first fell in love with comedy while serving as the class clown in elementary school, and he continues to do so now. On April 4, 1968—the day his father passed away from a heart attack at work at the age of 36—he struggled to find comedy. He returned home after spending the day at the funeral home in search of comfort in their 800-square-foot rear bedroom with his portable TV. Suddenly, a report of Martin Luther King’s death appeared on the screen. This reminded him of seeing MLK’s “I have a dream” speech while perched on his father’s knee.
After three seasons of playing Division 1 college basketball with the Tennessee Volunteers, Kevin and head coach Don DeVoe got into a physical argument (Kevin gave DeVoe the pie face after he grabbed Nash by his jersey), which resulted in their breakup. After seeing Stripes with Bill Murray, he was motivated to enlist in the Army. He then obtained top-secret clearance and represented the US Armed Forces in the paint. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Nash played basketball in Europe where he suffered a devastating knee injury that ended his basketball career and hampered his subsequent professional athletic career from the start. His passion for sports propelled him down a different path to notoriety, namely professional wrestling.
